Current ergonomic standards for computer workstation design were based on research that preceded the widespread infiltration of large screen flat panel monitors and multi monitor displays. A new study considers monitor placement for screens up to 27-1/2″ and dual monitor horizontal displays.

Most recently, a feature in the New York Times prompted one Oregon company to conduct their own 30-day sit-to-stand employee challenge. October is National Ergonomics Month, so we took a poll in the office to find out which ergonomic issues were affecting us most. The consensus: tension from repetitive typing and mousing motions. To help make a computer job physically sustainable in the long term and prevent the onset of CTS and other Repetitive Stress Injuries, we did a little research on the most current office exercises recommended for the hands, wrists, and arms.

Employees who vary their postures at work say that they are more alert and less fatigued at the end of the day. A workstation with sit-to-stand flexibility provides the widest range of movement and posture for employees, allowing them to alternate from a sitting to a standing position at will.
